“For my birthday, I treated myself to a solo trip to Bosnia & Herzegovina, and one of my favorite and most memorable activities is one I now recommend to anyone planning to visit Sarajevo and that’s signing up for Bosnian Cooking Lessons. From the very first message I received, I immediately felt as though Mersiha was a friend inviting me to her home for a delicious meal. She’s incredibly warm and friendly which made this experience all the more special. I truly appreciated the pick-up and drop-off transfer to and from Mersiha and her husband, Mustafa’s home, which further added to the feeling of visiting a friend for dinner. Mersiha…”

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 39 reviews · 1 hour 30 minutes (approx.) · from $36Best value

At AbrakaBakra Copper Art in Mostar’s Old Town, you’ll use stamps, hammers, and traditional techniques to make a bracelet, earrings, or pendant. Arnel or Denis may guide you through the process in English or Bosnian, with coffee and all materials included.

“The most wholesome experience ever, I already recommended to everyone in my hostel. Arnel not just showed me step by step how to make the earrings, but also thought me how to make traditional bosnian coffee, climbed the fig tree to get me some figs, and shared about the history and culture of bosnia. I'm travelling on a budget, but it was worth it, without question.”

4.Bosnian Traditional Handicraft, half-day – do it yourself – Coppersmith Workshop

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 13 reviews · 2 hours 30 minutes (approx.) · from $72

Meet Sarajevo’s only female coppersmith at a very old shop on Kovači Street. With clear English instruction, you’ll learn about local copperwork, decorate a džezva, enjoy coffee or tea, and take your finished pot home. The small group has a maximum of four people.

“The coppersmith workshop was absolutely fantastic, we have just finished it this afternoon. Unfortunately Funky tours is a third party involved in the booking and they are completely incompetent, but the coppersmith host is amazing and we had such a great time with her. If you book with funky tours, double check your booking confirmation with them as they have no idea what's going on. If you can choose this tour elsewhere with another company that also uses this same female coppersmith (she is the only female in her profession), then I'd recommend booking it with the other company.”
